Restorative Dentistry
Fillings
Teeth can be affected by decay, fractures, cracks, etc. In order to repair the damage, the decayed or affected portion is removed and then filled with a dental filling, ensuring that the tooth is kept healthy for many more years to come.
White fillings
We use the most advanced modern composite filling materials (also known as white fillings) to match the colour of you tooth, to produce an almost invisible, pleasing aesthetic result. Our materials are constantly upgraded to provide you with the very best in dental technology. Due to the mercury content in Amalgam fillings, we no longer recommend this as a filling material.
As your comfort is of paramount importance to us, we take great care to use only the most gentle and comfortable anesthetic techniques, as well as the most powerful and effective anesthetics, to ensure that your visit is completely comfortable from beginning to end.
Composite dental fillings are very durable, and will last many years. However as is the case with most dental restorations, they are not permanent and may have to be replaced at some point in the future.
How are composite fillings fitted?
Usually composite fillings are fitted in one appointment. In order to ensure your comfort at all stages of the procedure your dentist may numb the area using a local anesthetic. While your tooth is numb, your dentist will remove any decay as necessary, before thoroughly cleaning and preparing the space for the new filling. If the decay was close to the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. Finally the composite filling is positioned into place, and shaped and polished to restore your tooth to its original shape and function.
You may experience some sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures when composite fillings are first fitted, however this will subside soon as your tooth acclimatises to the new filling.
At the end of your treatment you will be given care instructions and advice on good oral hygiene practices. Make sure to schedule regular dental checkups to prolong the life of your new fillings.
